The Royal School of Needlework is currently holding its Summer Exhibition at Hampton Court this week (5th to the 10th off July from 10.30am – 4.30pm). Students work on exhibit is from three courses; Future Tutor Program, Diploma Course and the Certificate course. Many of my student’s pieces that are on exhibition are jaw dropping both in artistic merit and technical skill. One of my student’s Sarah Lane who graduated from the Certificate course also gained a prize in the Technique of Silkshading.
I administer the RSN Future Tutor’s Course and this year we had four graduate students; Kate Barlow, Helen Jone’s, Annalee Levin and Angela Bishop. I would like to wish them all the best in their embroidery careers. I do hope that the invisible elastic pulls you back to the RSN many a time! On the 12th of June I attended the Patron’s lunch on the Mal in town with RSN colleagues to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. Despite the torrential rain and wet weather gear are spirits were not dampened and we had the most amazing day. It was lovely to be with friends and colleges along with other charities who hold the Queen’s Patronage. We were all indulged with a very tasty hamper that was impeccably packaged and were entertained with a carnival style procession. All of us got a glimpse of the Royal family and some of us even shook their hands.
Despite my best efforts to organise a book launch for The Applique Book I haven’t been able to unfortunately, these things seemed to be attached with a cost. I now have the first copy of the book in my hand and the RSN also have the book in stock, the first 100 copies are signed by myself. To purchase one of these please click on the link; RSN Shop – Kate’s Applique Book
I completed my niece’s skirt for her birthday in hand smocking and finished it with some very dear yellow buttons and binding. It’s a little too big for Phoebe at the moment so auntie Kate will be hanging onto it for a couple of years!
This month I am teaching the Silver Fern project in Cowbridge which is just outside Cardiff. Techniques include; couching, cutwork, chipping, spangles, kid leather and platework. This kit will also be taught at the Godalming, Surrey class on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of November. The cost of the class is £135 and this includes tuition from 10-4 both days and refreshments. To book onto the class please ring me on 07958189349 or email; kate@bespokeembridery.net
Next week Rich and I are off to stay at a vineyard equidistant between Verona and Lake Garda in Italy. We are both really excited as we love Italy and have really fond memories of our honeymoon last year. Enjoy your summer too and I’ll be back in touch towards the end of the summer break…
